- Description: May, 5, 1943. Rail Removal Project, Burlington, Vermont. This view shows 3 stages of the project on Main St. in front of the U.S. Post Office (on the left). In the foreground can be seen the concrete base which is just being poured in the trench on the right and the sub-base ready to receive the concrete in the trench on the left, also 6 inch header at point of switch. The trench on the right beyond the header is ready for the rail to be removed. The rail is being removed in the background from the trench on the left by aid of the "A" frame and derrick. 2 inch hot asphalt plant mix will be constructed on top of the concrete base to finish the pavement. Also on the left center is the mansard roofed building that once was a place of worship for the First Baptist Church. Across the street from that building is seen a corner of the City Hall. On the right are businesses including the Federal Savings and Loan.

- Description: May, 5, 1943. Rail Removal Project. Burlington, Vermont by the city street dept. This view shows the construction of the "A" Frame and the method of attaching the frame to the end of the 26 foot boom of the Universal Truck Crane. The chain falls attached to the end of the frame and the boom were used for raising the frame when moving or when rough or uneven surface would not allow the frame to slide over the pavement without digging into the surface. Behind to the left is 174 Main, location of the Burlington Mutual Fire Insurance Company and on the right is 184 Main location of Gove, the Florist.

- Description: June 30, 1942. This view shows the curb and gutter construction of Staniford Road looking westerly near the intersection of the proposed street leading into the George Reynolds property at No. 148 Staniford. The intersection can be seen between the two houses. Note the amount of filling necessary to bring the center of the roadway up to the proper grade. The work on the northerly side of the street was completed in Nov. 1941. A special appropriation of $4100.00 was made for the construction, $500.00 of which was for street grading. Work done by the Burlington Street Dept.

- Description: October 1, 1942. Photo No. 7. This view of Staniford Road shows the method of distributing the dry cement evenly over the entire surface after the bags have been broken open and dumped in piles as shown in No. 4. The header placed at the end of the first day's work can be seen in the foreground. The tractor power used for hauling the spike-tooth harrows is an Allis-Chalmers IB Tractor normally used for the plowing of snow on the sidewalks during the winter months. The preparation of the base for the following day's work can be seen in progress in the background of the picture. Work done by the Burlington Street Dept.
