This view shows the form work for the south wall of the concrete foundation walls being constructed by Street Department forces for resetting of the metal hangar just south of the wooden hangar. A contract was awarded to the Street Department to build these foundation walls including all materials, labor and equipment for the sum of $1500.00 Several workmen and automobiles seen on site.

                  • Description: March 18, 1944. This view shows the inside of the Salvage Depot during the process of baling salvage paper and cardboard. The Street Department erected this building with its own employees and with material salvaged from various and sundry jobs. The Street Department purchased this baler and scales for the baling and weighing of salvage materials. The bale of pasteboard and cartons shown on the scales weight approximately 100 lbs. The salvage process will continue at this plant as a regular function of the operation of the Municipal Refuse Disposal Grounds of the Street Department after the War is over and for helping to pay the operating costs of the grounds.

                  Burlington Streets: Hayward St. & Hayward St. Sewer

                    • Description: May 25, 1942. Hayward Street Improvements Project. This view is taken from the intersection of Howard St. looking northerly to the intersection of Marble Ave. The excavation of the old pavement was partially done last winter and completed this month after which the sand cushion and telford stone base was constructed and the penetration course of chestnut stone has been spread over the telford base and roughly graded ready for rolling with the 15 ton steam roller. Note the condition of the old curbs which will be reset or replaced as the condition warrants.

                    Burlington Streets: Howard St.

                      • Description: November 9, 1945. Howard Street Pavement and Sidewalk Project. This view was taken at the intersection of Hayward Street looking westerly. Note the new concrete sidewalk on north side and new integral concrete curbs and gutters on both sides of pavement. The Hot Plant Mix Asphalt Wearing Surface was just bieng completed when this picture was taken. Grading between curb and sidewalk on North Side and in back of curb on South side was completed the following day after picture was taken. The 2 inch asphalt wearing surface was placed on a 3 inch penetration macadam with an 8 inch telford stone base. Drainage tile was laid the entire length of the street on the rear of the curbs on either side and in the center line of the street. All tile was drained with catch basins and manholes.
