    • Description: Undated but most likely 1930 as the banner in the distance that is strung across the street advertises the opening of the Flynn Theatre for the Performing Arts. A poster is also attached to a metal telephone pole. View is looking east from the intersection of Elmwood Ave. The Elmwood Ave cemetery is to the right. Trolley (cable) car tracks have been covered over. To the left is a sign over the door of the Paramount Cut Rate Shoppe at 204 North Street, proprietor Ernest Limoge.

      • Description: March 13, 1940. Intersection of North Street and North Winooski Avenue. This view shows the style of new street signs just erected on North Street from North Winooski Avenue to North Avenue. These signs were designed, constructed and erected by Street Department employees during the winter months. The name plates were purchased from the Lyle Signs Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota. There were seventeen of these signs constructed and erected on this street. The street lamp posts have spites projecting out from them to aid workmen climbing up. Retail stores and businesses include the The Silver Star Restaurant at 202 North. Grand Union in-between the Silver Star and Mazel's that is at 194 North. Dentist office above the Silver Star.

        • Description: August 25, 1930. Caption reads "Asphalt at intersection of North St and Park St 3PM." According to the 1930 city directory there was a First National grocery at 143 No. Champlain as seen here. So this is most likely North St and No. Champlain intersection. Street dept crew spreads asphalt as steam roller smooths it down.

        Burlington Streets: Pine St.

          • Description: September 18, 1942. Pine Street sewer project between Morse Place and Home Ave. This view shows the sewer trench with 10 inch tile installed from Morse Place to a point about mid-way of the block. The excavation the foreground is for the construction of the manhole at station 250 from the intersection of Home Ave. Note that sand filling is used for a cushion under the tile and for backfilling around the tile and for a depth of approximately one foot over the tile. This project is being done under our regular sewer appropriation. A trench hoe was used for digging the trench which was in clay and very tough hard-pan with numerous large boulders which had to be drilled and blasted. No solid rock was encountered.

                    Burlington Streets: Staniford Road

                      • Description: This view of Staniford Road shows the method of placing the bags of cement so as to distribute the proper amount of cement per square yard to obtain the right percentage in the mixture. This view also shows the bags being cut open and emptied in piles for even distribution. The surface in the foreground of this picture shows the completed pavement of the previous day with 6" X 6" timber header being removed. Work done by Burlington Street Dept. Undated but may be 1942.
