          • Description: Portrait of Oliver Otis Howard, United States Army officer and Union General during the American Civil War. Born in Leeds, Maine in 1830. Served in the First Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and others. Wounded and lost his right arm in the Battle of Seven Pines. Instrumental in the founding of Howard University located in Washington, DC. Died in Burlington, Vermont in 1909. Is buried in Lake View Cemetery in Burlington.
