This view is taken from the intersection of Colchester Avenue looking easterly. Note the new concrete face wall under the verandas on the apartment house at the left also new steel pipe supports for verandas constructed by the Street Department at the expense of the property owners; also note that the Rossetti residence has been moved back away from the street line where it is entirely out of view from this position.

Note the new integral curbing and gutter just constructed on the top of the old stone retaining wall about ten feet in front of the house; also the old wooden stairs necessary to descend in order to enter the ground floor of the house which is approximately ten feet below the surface of the street; also not condition of old chimney which was later rebuilt on the outside of the house.

                • Description: Salvage Project. Trolley track Rail Removal Project, Burlington, Vermont. This view taken in front of Burlington City Hall (right) while the last rail was being pulled on June 25, 1943, shows the special rail pulling equipment including the device for the "rolling pull" on the rail shown at the end of the "A" frame. In the background beyond city hall is a mansard roof building (corner of Church and Main) used for worship by the First Baptist Church of Burlington from 1845-1864.

                  • Description: June 25, 1943. Trolley Rail Removal Project, Burlington Street Department, Burlington, Vermont. This photo was "reshot" and is similar to another also showing the rail removal process in front of City Hall and Police Station with the paving crew following close behind the rail removing crew filling the trench with quick-setting cement concrete. Retail stores include Hayes and Carney Mens Clothes on the right next to the Western Union office. Distant right is City Hall. Further down is the mansard roof building that once served as a place of worship for the First Baptist Church from 1845-1864.

Hayward Street Improvements Project: This view shows Hayward Street looking northerly to the intersection of Marble Ave. The excavation of the old pavement was partially done last winter and completed this month after which the sand cushion and telford stone base was constructed and the penetration course of chestnut stone has been spread over the telford base and roughly graded ready for rolling with the 15 ton steam roller. Note the condition of the old curbs which will be reset or replaced, as the condition warrants.
