Note the new improvements consisting of integral curb and gutters, pavement consisting of a 6" concrete base with 2" asphalt top, also new ornamental lighting on street. The University of Vermont green is to the left. Old Mill is center right and to the extreme right is the Gymnasium (later to become Royall Tyler Theatre). Elm trees line the street.

              • Description: November 3, 1942. This view of Staniford Road shows the pavement one month after the Soil-Cement had been completed. Traffic had been allowed to use the pavement for the entire period. The intersection in the foreground was constructed of asphalt plant mix. The Soil-Cement pavement was given a light tack coat of asphalt emulsion as a protection coat for the winter. Work by Burlington Street Dept.

Mixed-in-Place-Asphalt Macadam 2 1/2" of crushed stone from 1/4" to 2" uniformly mixed. This picture shows the first application of #7 Asphalt being applied at the rate of 9/10 gal. per sq. yd. with the City owned Kinney Distributor and mixed with spring-tooth farm harrow.
