					<l>Please return</l>
					<l>(Mrs. Greeley cannot come now.)</l>
					<l>My dear Mrs. Olzendam</l>
					<l>I</l>
					<l>am writing this so that</l>
					<l><hi rend='underlined:true;'>once</hi> you may be sur-</l>
					<l>prised by a word out</l>
					<l>of the silence - Burlington.</l>
					<l>Friday we</l>
					<l>expect to manage a meeting</l>
					<l>of our executive board and</l>
					<l>heads of committees for a</l>
					<l>discussion of your letters -</l>
					<l>and other matters.</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='2'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>Personally I like the</l>
					<l>idea of a suffrage con-</l>
					<l>ference with a national</l>
					<l>speaker. Mrs. Putnam</l>
					<l>spoke to me recently about</l>
					<l>the possibility of Mrs. Helen</l>
					<l>Hoy Greely&apos;s coming from</l>
					<l>N.Y.C. in connection with</l>
					<l>&quot;Mil&apos;y Rank for Army Nurses&quot; -</l>
					<l>Would Mrs. Greely be the</l>
					<l>type of person to bring</l>
					<l>to Bennington? If so it</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='3'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>might be possible to use her</l>
					<l>at this time with little ex-</l>
					<l>pense. This is not even a</l>
					<l>suggestion - it is a question.</l>
					<l>I knew Mrs. G. personally in</l>
					<l>N.Y.C. and liked her very</l>
					<l>much.  I feel, however, that</l>
					<l>there is a question as to whether</l>
					<l>Bennington people would under-</l>
					<l>stand and accept her at</l>
					<l>once.</l>
					<l>I have wished very much</l>
					<l>that Mrs. Hale, B.F.R.<note></note></l>
					<l>might come here.  She seems</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='4'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>to me just the type for this</l>
					<l>town. We tried for her</l>
					<l>once but the price was</l>
					<l>prohibitive.</l>
					<l>Mrs. Spargo is not able at this time to </l>
					<l>at this time to under-</l>
					<l>take any <hi rend='underlined:true;'>extra</hi> <unclear>[</unclear>illegible] for</l>
					<l>suffrage since at present</l>
					<l>she is engaged in a</l>
					<l>very important one of her</l>
					<l>own, getting ready to</l>
					<l>present Mr. Spargo with a</l>
					<l>&quot;real live doll&quot; for a</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='5'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>Christmas gift.</l>
					<l>As for me I have no</l>
					<l>original ideas - less so</l>
					<l>now than ever because our</l>
					<l>personal family affairs are</l>
					<l>very much in upheaval</l>
					<l>at present. We may stay</l>
					<l>in Bennington indefinitely</l>
					<l>and we may have to be-</l>
					<l>gin to pack tomorrow.</l>
					<l>In the latter case, as you</l>
					<l>can see, I could do nothing</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='6'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>no connection with a</l>
					<l>conference. But if I</l>
					<l>am here I shall be</l>
					<l>very glad to help work</l>
					<l>up anything which may</l>
					<l>seem best to the state</l>
					<l>officers - and I am sure</l>
					<l>that it would go on</l>
					<l>without me very nicely,</l>
					<l>at any point</l>
					<l>I did receive your</l>
					<l>letter regarding Ratification.</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='7'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>Since, however there are</l>
					<l>no meeting of women at</l>
					<l>this season the advice</l>
					<l>has fallen on stony ground.</l>
					<l>Very Sincerely Yours,</l>
					<l>Lisa M. Wilkinson</l>
					<l>Bennington, Vt.</l>
					<l>September 8, 1919</l>
					<l>P.S. Since writing the above</l>
					<l>I have called Mrs. Spargo</l>
					<l>and talked a bit with her.</l>
					<l>While She cannot promise</l>
				</lg>
			</p>
			<pb n='8'/>
			<p>
				<lg>
					<l>much she would do what</l>
					<l>she could should you wish</l>
					<l>a County Convention. She could</l>
					<l>furnish you names of people</l>
					<l>interested in the different</l>
					<l>towns of the county whom</l>
					<l>you might interview and</l>
					<l>get to help you in working</l>
					<l>up a convention.</l>
					<l>L.M.W.</l>
					<l>Will you please think</l>
					<l>this over &amp; let me know</l>
					<l>how it strikes you? L.</l>
