Washington Aug. 1 1842 My dear friends, I write to you last evening that your letter that ought to have been here Saturday evening had not come to hand.  It has been received this morning, and I am rejoiced to hear that you were still well at the date of it.  I have only time to acknowledge the rest of your letter, and to say I also continue well. We have had very hot weather for two or three weeks past, yesterday about noon a change took place, with thunder, showers, &c. and this morning it is quite cool.
