<l>Washington, Mar. 25 1820</l>
<l>Dear Samuel,</l>
<l>I have expected a letter from you if at Burling-</l>
<l>ton as I supposed you were, and I have written one or two</l>
<l>letters and one of which I enclosed a few dollars for your imme-</l>
<l>diate use, concluding that you would not get much at Craftsbury</l>
<l>at present- I learn by a letter from your Mama which I</l>
<l>have just received that you had left home some days before</l>
<l>the date of her letter for Burlington- I learn by her letter</l>
<l>that the family were all well at that time- I have enjoy-</l>
<l>ed my health very well, and am in hopes of returning</l>
<l>home the last of April, or very early in May-</l>
<l>The mail was robbed yesterday morning a little North of Bal-</l>
<l>timore, the driver was murdered and the whole mail carried off-</l>
<l>I understand that the robbers have been taken, two or three, in </l>
<l>number, and are now in Baltimore jail and the letters and</l>
<l>money recovered. The late duel between Commodore Decatur</l>
<l>& Barron has created a great deal of sensations- Decatur was</l>
<l>buried on Friday and his funeral was attended by a vast con-</l>
<l>course of people. Commodore Barron lies confined to his</l>
<l>bed and very ill, but it is expected that he will not</l>
<l>die-</l>
<l>Yours affectionately,</l>
