<l>United States Senate</l>
<l>Washington D. C.</l>
<l>March 9, 1932</l>
<l>My Dear Mother,</l>
<l>Ros is here and tells me</l>
<l>you have been ill. I am very</l>
<l>sorry. He said [ ] had telegraphed</l>
<l>that you are better. I hope </l>
<l>you will speedily recover--</l>
<l>If you are not having</l>
<l>medical attention and</l>
<l>nursing please get it.</l>
<l>I am sure you acquit me</l>
<l>" [ ] in" when I say</l>
<l>that I am selfish about</l>
<l>this matter to the extent</l>
<l>that I will go to St. A</l>
<l>and nurse you myself</l>
<l>if you will not have</l>
<l>[ ]. I wonder if you </l>
<l>know how important </l>
<l>your comfort and</l>
<l>happiness are to our own</l>
<l>welfare.</l>

<l>United States Senate</l>
<l>Washington D. C.</l>
<l>The Senate is debating</l>
<l>appropriations for all travelers</l>
<l>of agriculture now. The Indian</l>
<l>appropriations are immediately</l>
<l>under the hammer. Occasionally</l>
<l>some senator jumps into</l>
<l>the middle of the debate</l>
<l>with a political speech</l>
<l>entirely irrelevant to the</l>
<l>issue, and fireworks play</l>
<l>across the aisle for a</l>
<l>fill, but [ ] we</l>
<l>arrive at the passage of</l>
<l>the bill and turn to Something</l>
<l>else.</l>
<l>The real work is in committee</l>
<l>or in study outside the Senate.</l>
<l>I have my share of this-</l>
<l>I was one of five to</l>
<l>vote "no" on the anti-</l>
<l>injunction bill- I guess this</l>
<l>was regarded as motive</l>
<l>that I am fairly "sat" when</l>

<l>United States Senate</l>
<l>Washington, D.C.</l>
<l>when I have made a decision.</l>
<l>I considered the bill unconstitution-</l>
<l>al and subversive of fundamental</l>
<l>principles. I was on the unpopular</l>
<l>side, but I could accomodate [accommodate]</l>
<l>principle to politics.</l>
<l>Mildred is recovering from</l>
<l>a bad cold which has been</l>
<l>epidemic in Washington. I am</l>
<l>well.</l>
<l>Good news from [ ]. He</l>
<l>is in excellent health, and his</l>
<l>mental outlook is happy</l>
<l>and cheerful.</l>
<l>Ros has seen an expert and</l>
<l>is hopeful of complete remedy</l>
<l>for his blood disturbances.</l>
<l>Best love and earnest</l>
<l>hope that you will not neglect</l>
<l>yourself or take risks-</l>
<l>Love</l>
