THOMAS, UTAH VICTOR RUSSELL, CLERK United States Senate COMMITTEE ON MILITARY AFFAIRS April 8, 1933 My dear Mother: I have been very amused to receive yours of the 6th, and am grateful to you for your love, as well as the beans. They have not arrived yet, of course, but will do so, no doubt, in due time. I am look- ing forward to them. We are at work on the Emergency Farm Mortgage Act, and I do not know where it will land us. I have to admit that I am very apprehensive of the arbitrary powers which are being placed in the hands of one man. Last night I heard that the President was going to cut off agricultural colleges, extension service, and industrial education. That would be a real blow at the citizenship of this Country when we seem to need the education and training in sta- bility which these activities give. I am going to try to head the thing off, and I am sure to have a tremendous backing in the effort. Love from us both. Your affectionate son, Warren Mrs. C. G. Austin, 91 South Main Street, Burlington, Vermont.
