<l>Warren R. Austin</l>
<l>Vermont</l>
<l>United States Senate</l>
<l>WASHINGTON, D. C.</l>
<l>May 19, 1936</l>
<l>Dear Mother:</l>
<l>I have just learned through Charlie Watson that</l>
<l>a heavy frost occurred May 15th, and I wonder</l>
<l>whether your garden is cleaned out. If there</l>
<l>is anything I can do about it, please call on</l>
<l>me. (Maybe we can help with a little New</l>
<l>Deal boondoggling.)</l>
<l>Yesterday was a memorable day. Both the</l>
<l>Supreme Court of the United States and the</l>
<l>Circuit Court of Appeals of the District of</l>
<l>Columbia held invalid parts of the New Deal</l>
<l>usurpation of legislative power and of the</l>
<l>sovereignty of the several States.</l>
<l>It seems to me that such denunciation as</l>
<l>these great decisions imply should put an end</l>
<l>to the injurious experiments of President Roosevelt</l>
<l>and his professors.</l>
<l>I go to New York tomorrow to speak at a luncheon</l>
<l>of the Westchester County Women's Republican Club,</l>
<l>at the Hotel Commodore.</l>
<l>Best love from Mildred and me.</l>
<l>Your affectionate</l>
<l>Warren,</l>
<l>Mrs. Chauncey G. Austin,</l>
<l>91 South Main Street,</l>
<l>St. Albans, Vermont.</l>
