My Dear Mother:
Glad to get your letter.
We expected Bob today but have
just learned that he will not
come until tomorrow.
The debate on the neutrality
bill is running strong. I am
not on the Committee which
considered it so I profess
no special knowledge about
the bill, however, I believe in
maintaining our rights and
our honor as a neutral
and the bill looks to me
much like running before
we are attacked.
Don't be surprised if I vote
against it. I am for
peace and the bill looks
like an invitation to war.
