					<l>COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY</l>
					<l>July 9, 1937</l>
					<l>Dear Mother:</l>
<l>The debate thus far has not been elevating. I</l>
<l>have been ashamed of the plane upon which it has</l>
					<l>been pitched.</l>
<l>The proponents have stressed the political charac-</l>
<l>ter of their interest, glorifying the President,</l>
<l>publicly acknowledging that they came into Con-</l>
<l>gress by virtue of his grace, and that they came</l>
<l>here under an obligation to do exactly what he</l>
<l>wanted them to do. They are charging their col-</l>
<l>leagues who are opposing the bill with personal</l>
					<l>infidelity.</l>
<l>I expect that Senator Wheeler will begin the op-</l>
					<l>position this noon.</l>
<l>Enclosed is a little publicity that may amuse you.</l>
					<l>Best love.</l>
