My Dear Mother:
Sen. Byrnes of So. Carolina is
making a long speech on
the reorganization bill. We
will next consider a point
of order raised to the motion
to proceed with the anti-
Lynching Bill. There is some
confusion about the business
to be transacted. Nero
fiddles while Rome burns.
Chairs has now ruled against
the point of order. This starts
a debate.
The galleries are full-
I sat at lunch with Chief
justice Greenshields, Lady
Marler, all of Montreal, and
others today, tho' I had
previously had my lunch
of sandwiches-
Our trip down was comfortable
in spite of storm and floods.
We are about settled-
Tom Connally is on the
floor now opposing the
motion to proceed with the
anti-lynching bill.
Well-- let them fight!
