United States Senate Washington Feb. 11, 1938. My Dear Mother: We had a hot session this A.M. in the sub. com. examining Mr. Jackson.  I have obtained an admission that he believes in the Prosecution having power to select the [ ].  This is contrary to Ango-Saxon tradition that the defendant is entitled to be tried by "his peers" and in his own country. Mr. Jackson is a fine fellow- honest, sincere and something of a Javert.  I like him, undoubtedly he will be confirmed.  Before that I want the people to know that he represents more centralization of power in Washington, more exercise of power over the courts, and coercion to put the New Deal across.
