<l>United States Senate</l>
<l>Washington</l>
<l>Feb. 11, 1938.</l>
<l>My Dear Mother:</l>
<l>We had a hot session this A.M. in the</l>
<l>sub. com. examining Mr. Jackson. I have</l>
<l>obtained an admission that he</l>
<l>believes in the Prosecution having</l>
<l>power to select the [ ]. This</l>
<l>is contrary to Ango-Saxon tradition</l>
<l>that the defendant is entitled to</l>
<l>be tried by "his peers" and in his</l>
<l>own country.</l>
<l>Mr. Jackson is a fine fellow-</l>
<l>honest, sincere and something</l>
<l>of a Javert. I like him, undoubtedly</l>
<l>he will be confirmed. Before that</l>
<l>I want the people to know that</l>
<l>he represents more centralization</l>
<l>of power in Washington, more</l>
<l>exercise of power over the courts,</l>
<l>and coercion to put the New Deal across.</l>
<l>Love, Warren</l>
