United States Senate Washington May 27, 1938, My Dear Mother: I have just finish a speech on the Spending Bill. I was on my feet 2 1/2 hours and my shirt is sticking to my back. Mildred is in the gallery & I am going up to speak to her. Others are carrying on. I appreciated your attitude on the block-booking bill. Nobody debated the opposite view.  I don't care much.
