United States Senate Washington, D.C. Feb. 1, 1939. My Dear Mother: We have been in recess since my last letter, but we have been at work just the same. The most vital issue today, I believe, is the question of our foreign policy as expressed in the plan for National defence.  Military affairs Committee is holding daily sessions. I am ranking Repubican thereon. Tonight the Republicans on that committee will meet in my office- Yesterday we all attended  a session at the White House.  I could agree to much that the President said, and oppose some of it.  It was all secret. We are now debating Relief bill. At 2 will attend Judiciary Com. on contest over appointment of a Judge- Hope you feel better- Best love, Warren
