My Dear Mother:
Debate rages on over
the national defense bill.
It is principally aimed
at the idea that the
President is getting us
into war. If they would
use their energy supporting
the [ ] that in peace
time we ought to give
our moral support
to peace by notifying
would be aggressors that
we will regard an overt
act leading to war as
an unfriendly act to
us, we might forestall
war. The question whether
we would take sides
when war comes by
economic sanctions
need not be passed on
now.
