My Dear Mother:
The buds on the
elm trees are swelling
this morning and
showing some color.
First sign of approach
ing spring excepting
the flight of crows
north. It seems funny
to hear them cawing
from the cornices of
our monumental buildings
on Constitution Avenue.
Debate on foreign
relations and common
defense continues
unabated. I doubt
that we get to a vote
on the bill today.
My committees are
working and I must
go into one on the
bill to reimburse
Vermont for 1812 war
advancements, at two.
