United States Senate Washington, D.C. March 23, 1939. My Dear Mother: This morning we had another meeting of Appropriations Committee considering War Department funds. There is evident a determination to provide the sinews of war. The Senate session went thro' the Calendar for unobjected bills and passed many. Last night the conference report on the National Defense Bill went thro' without debate.  This relieves one of much work. It is cold-- like a sugar day in Vermont.
