United States Senate Washington April 3, 1939. My Dear Mother: We started hearings this A.M. on a lot of R.R. legislation- practically a revision and codification of the Interstate Commerce Commission law- The senate is in session considering the Bankhead cotton subsidy bill.  I fear we will never see the end of the paternalistic and socialistic trends we follow. I am eager to see what happened Saturday with the inauguration of the new air line- Best love, Warren
