My Dear Mother:
My Vermont bill just
passed in the Senate.
Have had a long
tough fight. Vermont
advanced money to
pay soldiers and
other national defense
charges in the war
of 1812. For the advancements
the N.S. owed (including interest)
about 100,000. I have got
through the Senate a previous
resolution but needed
a bill which would
authorize our appropriation.
This latter has been resisted
strenuously. Today, we
fought it out and succeeded.

in tomorrows record.
Had a good breakfast
of your beans and was
well equipped for battle.
