My Dear Mother:
Did you hear
Mr. Roosevelt
last night? I did. [He] sounded
as if he felt need to defend
himself. As a plea for the
guilty it was an ingenious
performance. Almost anyone
else would be laughed out
of court for now calling
the New Deal "conservative."
He sees the handwriting
on the wall.
We continue with the bill
for regulation of transportation.
I have worked on this bill
in Committee. It is not
ideal but I know of nothing
better, and so expect to
support it.
Mildred is recovering
from an attack of sinus
excited by her trip to Vermont
and back. Quite a change
in climate and atmosphere.
