My Dear Mother:
Now we are debating
a labor amendment
to a bill carrying
an authorization of
277,000,000 to build
additional locks for
the Panama Canal. It sounds
like a move that would increase
the cost materially. I doubt if
I will support it.
We had a good rest yesterday
among other things I had a
swim in Chesapeake Bay.
The water was muddy and
brackish.
I plan to go to Burlington
the 9th and will call you
up as soon as I can after
arrival.
