Warren R. Austin Vermont United States Senate Washington, D.C. Oct. 3, 1939. My Dear Mother: In the midst many rushing events I have closed my door for a moment of peace with you. Crowds are here to listen to the debate on neutrality.  My desk is piled with letters.  Visitors of importance and helpful service are calling.  I have been on the job since eight A.M. with only time out for an oyster stew. Even at table the debate goes on. I will dine tonight with Senator Barbour and the discussion will carry into the night. Tomorrow I will go to Kentucky for the funeral of my friend Senator Logan.  I miss him. Best love- Warren
