My Dear Mother:
We approach the end of the
Hatch debate. It is two o'clock.
We commenced an hour
earlier than the regular time.
We have just defeated a
motion to recommit the
Bill to the Committee by
a vote of 31 yeas to 52 nays.
Now Sen. Neely has the
floor with a proposal that
would undo all we have done-
He will fail- I predict.
Had a fine letter from
Chan this morning. Your
letter referring to him
came yesterday. His recovery
is proceeding quite rapdily
now. He must have suffered
much pain. It was a
terrible fracture.
We had an interesting
international dinner at the
Embassy of Peru last night.
Mildred was given a place of honor
at the table of this Dean of
the Diplomatic Corps.
The cold and snow this
morning resembled a Vermont
morning in sugaring time.
