My Dear Mother:
Your distinguished
friend Senator McCarran
is now addressing the
Senate in opposition to the
Plan IV by which the President
would abolish the Air Safety
Board. This certainly [is] an
unwise exercise of power.
Since that Board went into
action we have experienced
an improvement in aeronautics
by which we have escaped
all fatal accidents for
thirteen months on our
regular transports that are
within their jurisdiction.
Same achievement! No one
fatal crash in that period.
The pilots are all approved
to Plan II. So am I-
I presented for admission
to the bar of the Supreme Court
this morning Senator Danaher
of Conn. and Robert S. Buttles
of N.Y. Buttles is a son of
my old friend Justice
Buttles of our Supreme Court.
I am going to a Masonic
meeting in the Temple at
Alexandria tonight-
