United States Senate Washington July 3, 1940. My Dear Mother: I will broadcast from the Worlds Fair tomorrow.  This will be an important 4th of July for the country, because it comes when independence is again in imminent peril.  I suppose that my audience will be a large one.  The network is sponsored by Mutual Broad- casting Co. and covers the United States.  My subject will be Revitalizing the Declaration of Independence in 1940. I shall advocate for our foreign policy independence thro' not isolation or intervention. I shall support the policy of aiding the allies with all that we can afford short of war. I shall promote national unity, morally, and national defense in both arms and men- This means speeding up the national industrial plant and conscripting by a selective draft the men of all ages between 18 and 65. They will not be called for service now, but classes will be selected and called for training. I wired you today to let you know about the broadcast. I hope that you are recovering and gaining strength. Best love, Warren
