United States Senate Washington July 10, 1940. My Dear Mother: We will complete debate and vote on the Knox nomination to Sec. of Navy today and I intend to get home tomorrow if possible. The business of the Senate tomorrow is such that both Sen. Barkley, Majority leader, and Sen. McNary, Minority leader, believe it is safe for me to leave tonight. The Record of June 9 contains in the Appendix copy of the 4th of July proceedings at the World Fair.  The Record of July 10 will contain some remarks by me regarding public opinion in Vermont regarding national Defense. I hope to get up to see you soon after my return to Vermont- Best love, Warren-
