Senate Chamber July 30, 1940. My Dear Mother: Pretty hot!  Almost 100. I had a telegram from Chan showing he was discahrged from the hospital and returned home.  He seems full of courage and hope. God bless him!  He has some of your spunk. We voted out of Committee the bill to authorize the Pres. to call the Nat'l Guard for Federal services for a year- today. Tomorrow we will continue work on the bill for compulsory military training and service.  I hope we may get it out of the Committee. Yesterday I debated the bill for R.R. Unemployment insurance.  You can find my remarks beginning at Record p. 14,703. Legislative work is slow.  I may get home Friday morning- Best love- Warren-
