My Dear Mother:
Sen. Burke, one of the authors
of the Burke-Wadsworth Conscription
Bill has the floor.
Sen. Josh Lee has offered an
amendment that would increase
the base pay of all soldiers.
This is not mere strategy. It
has been under consideration for
years. Probably this increase
will be made.
There is talk today of recessing
Thursday to enable Senators to
attend the ceremonies in
Indiana, marking the acceptance
by Wilkie of his nomination for
President. I do not expect to
attend tho' I am willing to
campaign for him if he wants
me to.
My friend Leo Casey, who [is]
publicity director for the
Worlds Fair in New York 1940
has been employed by
Wilkie. This is good.
It is somewhat
cooler here today-
