My Dear Mother:
I hear that the House may act today
on the tax bill. If it comes over
to the Senate today our session
will be shortened some. I will
feel that we can recess next
Friday.
Wilkie made a speech last night
that may be more effective than
some of the more cultured
utterances of our statesmen.
Sen. Vanderberg says that some
gallery god threw a carrot at
him from behind and it missed
That is a good omen.
Francis Wilson in his play "Half
a King" took advantage of such
a demonstration by picking
up the carrot, biting a chunk
out of it and commenting
"Humiliating but wholesome."
a drunken woman (Democrat)
threw a chair out of the Cadillac
Hotel into a Wilkie crowd
and hit a child. The child
is in a Hospital, the woman
in jail. This bad for both,
but the omen is also good.
