					<l>United States Senate</l>
					<l>COMMITTEE ON MILITARY AFFAIRS</l>
					<l>Burlington, Vermont</l>
					<l>Nov.7,1940</l>
					<l>My dear Mother:</l>
<l>I can resume my letter writing which I have missed</l>
<l>as much as you have. The battle is over. I</l>
<l>should not complain in view of the wonderful sup¬</l>
<l>port that Vermonters are giving me but I regret</l>
<l>very much that Mr. Willkie was not elected and</l>
<l>that a Republican House of Representatives was not</l>
					<l>elected.</l>
<l>Now we have the acrobatic performance of balancing</l>
<l>ourselves between the New Deal and national de¬</l>
<l>fense. It will be more difficult than ever before.</l>
					<l>However, my courage is good.</l>
<l>I will see you soon. Best love in which Mildred</l>
					<l>joins me.</l>
					<l>Affectionately,</l>
					<l>Warren</l>
