February 11, 1946 Institute Road - Road Excavation and Street Widening Project This view was taken from a point on Institute Road near the gate leading to Bishop Hopkins Hall looking easterly toward North Ave. The rock excavation to be removed can be seen in the south portion of the highway. Note the rock also on the north side of the road which should be removed in order to develop the street for its full width. An appropriation of $2500.00 was made by the Board of Aldermen to pay for the cost of removing the rock excavation. The appropriation was made to the Park Department and the work is to be done by the Street Department. This appropriation covers only the estimated cost of rock excavation and depositing this extra rock for fill on the shoulder of the road where the street is to be widened by filling. An appropriation will have to be made later if this work is to be done.
